Walsall player 245. Steven Richard “Steve” Cherry

Steven Richard “Steve” Cherry (born 5 August 1960) is an English former footballer. A goalkeeper, he made 541 league appearances in a 24-year career in the Football League, playing in all four divisions of the league.
He began his career at Derby County in 1979. Loaned out to Port Vale in November 1980, he managed to win the first team jersey at Derby, and was voted Player of the Year in 1983. Sold on to Walsall for a £25,000 fee in August 1984, he was moved on to Plymouth Argyle for a £17,000 fee in October 1986. He was voted Plymouth’s Player of the Year in 1988, before he was sold on to Notts County in February 1989 for a £70,000 fee, following a short loan spell with Chesterfield. He helped Neil Warnock’s County to win successive promotions from the Third Division to the First Division via the play-offs in 1990 and 1991. He moved on to Watford in July 1995, before rejoining Plymouth Argyle in February 1996. He helped the club win the Third Division play-offs in 1996, his third such success with Neil Warnock. He then saw out his career with brief stays at Rotherham United, Rushden & Diamonds, Mansfield Town, Oldham Athletic, Lincoln City, Stalybridge Celtic,Kidsgrove Athletic, and Belper Town. He later coached at Lincoln City and Macclesfield Town.
Cherry started his career with Derby County, who lost their First Division status at the end of the 1979–80season. He joined Port Vale on loan in November 1980. Manager John McGrath had sold regular custodianTrevor Dance, and was forced to enter the loan market after Mark Harrison was struck down with injury. Cherry was in goal for four Fourth Division and four FA Cup games. In his final game for the “Valiants” he conceded ‘a comic goal’ in a devastating 3–0 defeat at non-league Enfield in a Third Round FA Cup Replay on 6 January 1981. He managed to put his experience at Vale Park behind him though, and played 77 league games for Derby. The “Rams” finished sixth and 16th in the Second Division in 1980–81 and 1981–82 under Colin Addison’s stewardship. Despite Peter Taylor’s best efforts, the almost bankrupt club finished 13th in1982–83 before suffering relegation in 20th place in 1983–84. Cherry was voted the club’s Player of the Year in 1983.
Cherry left the Baseball Ground in August 1984, after new boss Arthur Cox sold him on to Walsall for a £25,000 fee. The “Saddlers” finished 11th in the Third Division in 1984–85. Alan Buckley took the Fellows Park club up to sixth in 1985–86, before he sold Cherry on to Plymouth Argyle for a £17,000 fee in October 1986. The “Pilgrims” missed out on the Second Division play-offs by three points in 1986–87. However they dropped down to 16th in 1987–88, and manager Dave Smith left Home Park at the end of the campaign. Despite having been voted Player of the Year, new boss Ken Brown loaned Cherry out to Chesterfield mid-way through the 1988–89 campaign. He played ten Third Division games for the “Spireites”, before he was sold on to Notts County in February 1989 for a £70,000 fee.
County narrowly missed out on the Third Division play-offs at the end of the season before qualifying for the play-offs after finishing third in 1989–90. They won the play-off final with a 2–0 victory over Tranmere Rovers at Wembley. Manager Neil Warnock then took the club to a second successive promotion, as County finished fourth in the Second Division in 1990–91, before beating Brighton & Hove Albion 3–1 in the play-off final. Cherry kept goal for County in 1991–92, as the “Magpies” were relegated out of the top-flight in 21st place. They finished 17th in the second tier in 1992–93, before new boss Mick Walker took the club to three points outside the play-offs in 1993–94. Cherry’s last season at Meadow Lane, 1994–95, saw a managerial merry-go-round as Walker begat Russell Slade, who begat Howard Kendall, who begat Steve Nicol – County were relegated in last place at the end of the campaign.

Steve Cherry
He signed for Glenn Roeder’s Watford in July 1995, but featured in just four First Division matches in 1995–96 as Kevin Miller was the club’s regular custodian.Graham Taylor replaced Roeder as manager in February 1996, and Cherry left Vicarage Road to return to former club Plymouth Argyle, in a move that reunited him with former boss Neil Warnock. He kept a clean sheet for Plymouth in the Third Division play-off final at Wembley, as his team won promotion with a 1–0 victory over Darlington. Cherry then moved on to Rotherham United, after being offered a first team contract at the Don Valley Stadium by management duo Archie Gemmill and John McGovern. He played 23 league and cup games for the “Millers”, who went on to suffer relegation out of the Second Division at the end of the1996–97 season. He joined Rushden & Diamonds in March 1997, and played 18 Conference games under manager Brian Talbot in 1997–98 and 1998–99. He left Nene Park in September 1997, and had brief non-contract spells at Mansfield Town, Oldham Athletic, and Lincoln City. Cherry later played for non-league sides Stalybridge Celtic, Kidsgrove Athletic, and Belper Town. Cherry spent some time as Lincoln City’s goalkeeping coach. He was appointed as goalkeeping coach at Macclesfield Town in February 2009, but left the job in May 2010 after an illness required that he undergo heart surgery.

Walsall player 238. Martin Butler.

Martin Neil Butler (born 15 September 1974) is an English former professional footballer who played as a striker from 1993 until 2009.
Butler notably played for Walsall, Cambridge United and Reading. He also had spells with Rotherham United,Grimsby Town, Burton Albion and Worcester City.
Butler spent most of his youth in Bridgnorth, Shropshire, attending Castlefields Primary School and Oldbury Wells School. Butler started his career at Walsall, where he rose through the youth ranks. Following rave reviews, he made his senior debut in the 1993–94season.
However, his career at Walsall faltered, and he was allowed to join Cambridge United for £22,500 in the summer of 1997. A prolific spell at the Abbey Stadium prompted Reading to pay around the £750k mark for his services in February 2000. Butler continued his fine goal-scoring form – including a goal in the 2000–01Football League Second Division Playoff Final in May 2001, although Reading went on to lose the match 3–2 to Butler’s old team Walsall. On 6 November 2001, Butler was stretchered off during Reading’s 2–0 win over Wrexham, suffering serious damage to his ankle. He broke his ankle and fibula, and suffered ligament damage competing for a ball on the touchline after his foot stuck in the ground. He did not play again until April 2002, but his goals that season still helped Reading to get promoted to the First Division in second place.
After his injury, Butler could not recapture the form for Reading that he’d shown before, and after floating in and out of the first team, he was sold to Rotherham United in a £150,000 deal in August 2003. Butler then moved back to Walsall three seasons later on a free transfer, signing a two-year deal on 1 July 2006. In October 2007 Butler, whose contract with Walsall is due to end at the end of the 2007/08 season, signed a three-month loan deal at Football League Two side Grimsby Town. The move lasted until January at which point Grimsby signed him on a permanent deal. He made his debut for Grimsby on 20 October against Wycombe Wanderers. Butler’s time at Grimsby was troubled due to the players concerns that his 350-mile round trip from his Worcester home to Grimsby were affecting his performances on and off the pitch, and he notably missed training regularly due to the time it took to commute. Alan Buckley attempted to offload Butler to Hereford United on transfer deadline day, which was only two months after signing a two-year deal at Blundell Park, but the player rejected Hereford’s contract offer. In an attempt to amend relations with Grimsby, Butler returned to regular training and won back his place in the side next to Danny North and helped The Mariners climb from 19th in League Two, to 10th. Despite Butler’s renewed attempts to salvage his Grimsby career, he reignited his travel problems, and this eventually saw the player drop out of contention at the club. He played his last game for the club in the League Cup fixture with Blackburn Rovers and after that he was shelved by Buckley who dropped him to the reserves, which is where he remained for the rest of his time at Grimsby before he was eventually released in October 2008 by the club’s new manager Mike Newell.
In February 2009, he was announced as Roy McFarland’s first signing at Burton Albion when he signed a contract until May 2009, he was released at the end of the season. Upon his release he signed for Worcester City in July 2009. It was said that Butler would be heading towards management, but he chose to retire shortly after departing Worcester and has since not returned to the game in any capacity.
Since 2011, Butler has continued playing for The Allstars team of his former side Walsall. He now works as a Heating Engineer and runs his own business called MK Installatons.

I don’t have a picture of Martin.

Walsall player 236. Deon John Burton

Deon John Burton (born 25 October 1976) is a professional footballer who plays for Scunthorpe United as a striker.

Born in Reading, Berkshire, Burton began his professional career with Portsmouth, with whom he made his debut in the 1993–94 season, playing in two games. Burton would play intermittently for Portsmouth over the next three seasons and scored the goal that kept the club in the First Division in a 1–0 final day win against Huddersfield Town in May 1996.
In 1997, former Portsmouth manager Jim Smith signed Burton for Premier League club Derby County in a £1 million move.
Burton would again struggle to establish a starting role at Derby, playing intermittently there with loans at other clubs including Stoke in February 2002, and a second spell at Portsmouth, which began in August 2002. He returned to Derby in September having broken a bone in his foot, but later signed for Portsmouth in December 2002 for a fee rising to £250,000 and Portsmouth were promoted at the end of the season. Burton stayed shortly at Portsmouth, but, unable to establish a starting role, was loaned to Walsall and Swindon Town, where he scored once against Wycombe Wanderers. In July 2004 he signed for Brentford, playing for them in the 2004–05 campaign and helping the club to the League One play-off semi-finals against Sheffield Wednesday as their top scorer.
In July 2005 he joined Rotherham United on a free transfer, signing a contract for two years. After scoring 14 goals in the first half of the season, including a hat-trick in a 4–0 victory against Blackpool, Burton put in a transfer request in December 2005.
Sheffield Wednesday bought Deon Burton from Rotherham United in January 2006 for a fee of £110,000. This caused much controversy amongst the Rotherham public, as Burton was alleged to have trained with Sheffield Wednesday before the transfer window opened. He had also failed to turn up at the Yorkshire derby between Rotherham and Doncaster Rovers on New Year’s Eve. He then told local radio his young children were suffering from a virus which he caught, leading to him missing games and training for the Millers. He scored his first goal for the Owls in March 2006 against Queens Park Rangers.
He went on to play a crucial part in Sheffield Wednesday’s Championship survival and returned to play against his old club Derby County on the final day of the2005–06 season, captaining the Wednesday side to a 2–0 victory with another former Ram, Marcus Tudgay, scoring the first goal.
His good form for Wednesday led to a recall to the international stage. Named as a standby for the friendlies against Ghana and England, he was eventually called up as a replacement for Watford striker Marlon King who was sent home for a breach of discipline. Burton made a second-half appearance as substitute in the 6–0 defeat to England.
Despite only scoring one goal with four months of the 2006–07 campaign gone, Burton’s second half of season form was excellent. He scored 12 more goals, making him the club’s joint top scorer for the season, alongside Steve MacLean.
Deon reached a milestone 100 career goals at club level on 26 December 2007, scoring a penalty against Burnley at Turf Moor. On the last day of the season against Norwich, with Wednesday needing a win to guarantee survival, Burton cancelled out Darren Huckerby’s opening goal with a penalty, before scoring his second, and Wednesday’s third, later in the game, which was won 4–1 by Wednesday. These two goals brought Deon’s tally for the season to nine goals in all competitions, again making him the club’s top scorer for the 2007–08 season. Burton scored his first goal of the 2008–09 season on 25 November 2008, in Wednesday’s 0–2 away win at Blackpool.
Burton joined Championship side Charlton Athletic on loan on 27 November 2008 with a view to a permanent move, Wednesday manager Brian Laws citing Burton’s poor start to the 2008–09 season for the move as well as not being able to give the player assurances over his long term future at Hillsborough. On 2 January 2009, Burton was named as a permanent Charlton player, joining the club on a free transfer.
In 2010, Burton joined Azerbaijan Premier League outfit Gabala under the management of Tony Adams. After two years and 15 goals in the 50 league games, Burton left Gabala at the end of the 2011–12 season.

deonburton
On 7 August 2012, Burton signed a one-year deal at League Two club Gillingham, turning down the offer of a deal at an unnamed League One side. He made his debut for Gillingham on 18 August 2012 in 3–1 win over Bradford City. He scored his first goal for the club on 25 August in a 2–1 win away to Dagenham & Redbridge. Burton was not offered an extension to his contract and left the club.
Burton signed for League Two club Scunthorpe United on a one-year deal on 22 July 2013 after impressing on trial. He joined League Two team York City, managed by his former Scunthorpe manager Russ Wilcox, on a one-month loan on 30 October 2014. He made his debut two days later in a 1–0 away win over Cheltenham Town, but after being ruled out for two to three months with a medial ligament injury sustained in his second appearance for the club, the loan came to an end on 12 November 2014.
Burton made his debut for the Jamaica national team on 7 September 1997 in the latter stages of their 1998 FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign. He finished with four goals from five games, an exploit which won him Jamaica’s Sportsman of the Year Award for almost single-handedly getting the country to the 1998 FIFA World Cup finals. However he failed to score in France. He also appeared in each of Jamaica’s games as they finished fourth in the 1998 CONCACAF Gold Cupbut he failed to score. He was also in the squad that failed to qualify for the 2002 FIFA World Cup and was again included on the roster for the 2000 CONCACAF Gold Cup.
He was included in the qualifying squad for the 2003 CONCACAF Gold Cup, making substitute appearances but was dropped from the squad after qualification.
Burton had to wait three years for his next international involvement – coming against the country of his birth England. Good form for Sheffield Wednesday meant that he was recalled for a friendly match against Trinidad and Tobago on 27 March 2008. He came on as a second-half substitute for Marlon King in a 2–2 draw, earning his 50th cap. He kept his place in the squad for the next friendly game against Saint Vincent and the Grenadines on 3 June, again coming off the bench for King in the second half, to score his side’s fourth goal a minute later and also to cross for Ricardo Gardner to score the fifth and final goal in the 87th minute of a 5–1 victory.

Walsall player 180. Febian Earlston Brandy

Febian Earlston Brandy (born 4 February 1989) is an English footballer who plays as a striker or winger for Rochdale.
Born in Manchester, he began his career at Manchester United, but he was unable to break into the first team and spent time on loan at Swansea City, Hereford United and Gillingham before his release in July 2010. He signed for Notts County in February 2011, but made only four appearances and was released at the end of the season. After a short spell in Greece with Panetolikos, he returned to England to sign for Walsall in July 2012 before joining Sheffield United the following summer. He lasted only one season at United, spending half of that back on loan at Walsall before being released in the summer of 2014 signed for Rotherham United in summer 2014. .
Brandy was at Manchester United from the age of nine; having been spotted playing for his local team, West End Boys. Having recovered from various injuries, including a broken leg, that ruled him out of much of the 2005–06 season, Brandy was a regular starter in the United reserve team, and scored his first goal for the reserves against Bolton Wanderers in October 2006.
Brandy started up front for United against Liverpool in both legs of the FA Youth Cup final, winning a penalty in the first leg – which Sam Hewson converted – but missing a chance when through on goal in the second leg, which his youth team manager Paul McGuinness described as a “key moment” in the tie which Liverpool won on penalties. Brandy was also the scorer of the only goal in the 2007 Champions Youth Cup final against Juventus.

Febian Brandy
On 17 January 2008, Swansea City signed Brandy on loan until the end of the 2007–08 season, which was confirmed by United the following morning, and Brandy made his Swansea debut in their match against Port Vale on 19 January 2008, coming on as an 82nd-minute substitute for Paul Anderson.
Brandy returned to Manchester United for pre-season training in July 2008, but was sent out for a second six-month spell on loan at Swansea on 22 July 2008. He returned to Manchester United on 12 January 2009.
On 2 February 2009, Brandy joined Hereford United on a month-long loan deal, subsequently extended until the end of the season. He made his debut for the Bulls on 14 February 2009, and scored the first goal in a 3–2 away win over Cheltenham Town; fellow on-loan Manchester United player Sam Hewson scored Hereford’s other two goals. Brandy’s four goals in League One made him Hereford’s second highest goal scorer for the 2008–09 season.
On 4 November 2009, Brandy joined League One side Gillingham on a two-month loan deal. He scored and was named as Man of the Match on his Gillingham debut, a 3–0 FA Cup first round win over Southend United on 7 November.
At the end of his contract on 30 June 2010, Brandy was allowed to leave Manchester United on a free transfer.
On 28 February 2011, after unsuccessful trials with Leicester City and Preston North End, Brandy signed for Notts County until the end of the 2010–11 season. Brandy made four appearances for the club but he was released at the end of that season when his contract was not renewed.
Brandy spent more than six months as a free agent until, in February 2012, he joined Greek Superleague club Panetolikos on a free transfer, but left the club without appearing for the first-team. After leaving Panetolikos, Brandy says the club didn’t pay his wages since his move. On his time with Panetolikos, Brandy stated “I had a call from an agent, who had a club lined up for me in Greece, so I went out there just hoping to play some football… They promised me a house, a car, but I didn’t even get a wage in the end, and I had to sleep on a mate’s couch… I had to ask them for a bed and some money to live on – not a lot to ask, really… They promised me they would sort it, but they never did and I had to terminate my contract.”

FebianBrandyWFC
In July 2012, he went on trial with Walsall, where he impressed enough to earn a permanent contract with the club. Brandy made his debut for Walsall as an 89th-minute substitute in a 1–0 win over Brentford in the first round of League Cup. He then came on for Jamie Paterson in the opening game of the league season, a 3–0 loss against Doncaster Rovers. After the match, Brandy suffered an hamstring injury. After making a slow start without scoring, Brandy finally scored his first goal for the club (and his first goal in English Football since late-2009) in a 2–2 draw against Crawley Town on 17 November 2012. Brandy continued to impress the club when he made a double assist for Jamie Paterson and Will Grigg in a 2–2 draw against Yeovil Town on 15 December 2012. The next game, Brandy soon scored a winner in a 1–0 win over Colchester United; followed up with his second and set up a goal for Paterson, for the third goal, in a 4–2 win over Milton Keynes Dons. His fourth came in Walsall’s televised league game on Sky Sports against Portsmouth and set up a goal for Grigg; his fifth came when he scored in a 3–1 win Bournemouth. Due to his goal scoring form, Brandy said he proved the critics wrong by placing 14th, 14 points clear of the relegation zone.
On 25 June 2013 Brandy signed for League One club Sheffield United on a two-year contract with the option of a third year. Before signing for the Blades, Brandy claimed that clubs in Russia and the United States were interested in signing him. Brandy made his debut for the Blades in the opening fixture of the following season, in a 2–1 home defeat of Notts County. After initially being a regular starter for the Blades, Brandy picked up two red cards in quick succession in October and November of that year, picking up a seven game suspension in total. By the time Brandy returned to first team contention, Nigel Clough had taken over as manager and used Brandy only as an occasional substitute. As United looked to revamp their squad, in January 2014 Brandy was loaned back to former club Walsall for the remainder of the season, playing 20 further games during his return spell, scoring four goals. On 25 June 2014, Brandy was released by United exactly one year after his signing, and half way through his two year contract.
On 27 June 2014, days after his release from Sheffield United, Brandy joined South Yorkshire rivals Rotherham United of the Championship on a free transfer. After making a single appearance for the Millers, Brandy joined Crewe Alexandra on an initial one-month emergency loan on 17 September 2014, and scored in the club’s home win over Coventry City on 11 October. The loan was subsequently extended by a further month. It was announced on 8th January 2015 that Brandy’s contract with Rotherham had been terminated by mutual consent.
On 12 January 2015, Febian joined Rochdale on a deal till the end of the season.

Walsall player 148. Hector McLeod Sam

Hector McLeod Sam (born 25 February 1978) is a Trinidadian international footballer striker who plays for TT Pro League side Central FC.
He spent eight years as a professional player in the English Football League, most significantly playing a total of 176 games for Welsh club Wrexham between 2000 and 2005, helping them to league and cup success. After spending a season on the sidelines at Port Vale following a broken leg, he signed with Walsall in 2006. Following the club’s promotion he switched to Notts County, before leaving the professional game in 2008. Either side of his adventures in the UK he played for hometown club San Juan Jabloteh. In a six-year international career he scored two goals in twenty appearances, helping his country to qualify for the2006 FIFA World Cup.

Hector Sam
Growing up with Marvin Andrews in San Juan, Sam attended Queen’s Royal College in Trinidad for a short stint, before beginning his career at Port of Spain based San Juan Jabloteh. He moved to the United Kingdom to play forWelsh club Wrexham in the summer of 2000. There he teamed up with fellow Trinidad internationals Carlos Edwards and later Dennis Lawrence. He made his Football League debut on 12 August 2000, playing a Second Division game at the Racecourse Ground against Bristol City, which finished in a 2–0 win for the visitors. Seven days later he scored his first goal for the club in a visit to Gigg Lane; Sam scored the second goal of a 4–1 hammering of Bury. He then went on to strike five times in his next five games, putting one past Wigan Athletic, Rotherham United and Colchester United, as well as a brace past Oldham Athletic. However he failed to score in the rest of his sixteen games that season. The young international made 33 appearances in 2001–02. He scored five league goals, one each away at Wigan, Peterborough United,Cardiff City, as well as a brace upon his return to Gigg Lane. His exploits were not enough to save the club from relegation to the Third Division.Wrexham went straight back up in 2002–03, Sam making 32 appearances and scoring another five goals. His goals came against Oxford United, Macclesfield Town,Swansea City, Hartlepool United and Carlisle United. He was transfer listed by manager Denis Smith in May 2003, despite penning a two-year deal two months previous. The 2003–04 season was one of Sam’s strongest. He scored twelve times in 41 games, managing to score twice in one game on two occasions – against Blackpool and Luton Town. In January 2004 Rotherham United manager Ronnie Moore expressed an interest in signing him, though nothing came of it. In 2004–05 he again scored twelve times, though this was not enough to save Wrexham from the drop – thanks to them being deducted ten points for entering administration. His first competitive hat-trick in the English game came on 10 August at Boundary Park, as he scored all of Wrexham’s goals in a 3–2 win over Oldham. He also picked up his first sending off, seeing red against Huddersfield Town on 27 November at the Galpharm Stadium, he received the red just three minutes after replacing Juan Ugarte (the sending over was later overturned upon appeal). In March 2005, he scored his seventh career goal against Oldham, though accepted he was now a ‘super-sub’ at Wrexham. His twelve goals earned the club eleven points, they would have been saved if it were not for administration. He was an unused substitute in the club’s 2005 Football League Trophy success. At the end of the season he signed for Port Vale, who themselves had narrowly avoided relegation.
After three appearances in August 2005 he broke his leg, and had to wait until April 2006 to take to the field again. The injury limited him to just five appearances in2005–06, and at the end of the campaign he dropped down to League Two to sign with Vale’s West Midlands rivals Walsall. He  scored seven goals in a massive 47 appearances in 2006–07, as the club went up as champions. Despite this he was let go at the end of the season. He was subsequently signed by Notts County in May 2007. County had a disappointing 2007–08, finishing just six points off relegated Mansfield Town – and eight points ahead of his old club Wrexham. He made 24 appearances before being dropped in January, scoring just two goals, one against Hereford United and the other against Histon in the FA Cup. He left the club by mutual agreement in March 2008.

Returning to his homeland, in January 2009 he re-joined old club San Juan Jabloteh, signing in time for the start of the 2009 season. Jabloteh finished the campaign as runners-up to Joe Public. This was followed by a disappointing sixth place finish in 2010–11. He later joined Central FC, who finished fifth in 2012–13 and 2013–14 under the management of Terry Fenwick .Sam was named as a backup player for the Trinidad and Tobago national team in the 2006 World Cup. He might have made the final cut if he was not recovering from a broken leg. He made his debut for the “Soca Warriors” in 1999 and earned a total of twenty caps in a six-year stint, scoring two goals.

Walsall player 145. Carl Robinson

Carl Robinson (born 13 October 1976) is a retired Welsh footballer who is currently the head coach for Vancouver Whitecaps FC in Major League Soccer.
A combative player, Robinson started his career as a trainee with Wolverhampton Wanderers. He made his Wolverhampton Wanderers debut during the 1996–97 season. While on loan at Shrewsbury Town Robinson made his Football League debut versus Hull City in a 1-1 draw at Gay Meadow in front of 2,346 on 30 March 1996. He made five appearances for The Shrews: four in the league and one in The Football League Trophy final at Wembley Stadium in a 2-1 defeat against Rotherham United in front of 35,235, a defeat that drove him on further to be a success in the game. After over 180 appearances for Wolves over six seasons, he moved to Portsmouth in July 2002 under the Bosman ruling. He played around 20 games for Portsmouth in their promotion year before loan spells with Sheffield Wednesday (where he scored once against future club Norwich), Walsall (where he scored once against Bradford), Rotherham, Sheffield United and Sunderland. After impressing at Sunderland he signed a permanent three-year deal in June 2004. He then went on to collect another championship winners medal as they gained promotion during a season in which he played 42 of 46 matches. After a loan spell with Norwich City, he signed for The Canaries permanently on a 2½-year deal for an undisclosed fee in January 2006. Robinson scored his first goal for Norwich in a 5–1 win against Barnsley on 26 August 2006. He racked up over 50 appearances in 15 months before deciding to leave. On 31 January 2007, Robinson joined Toronto FC from Norwich after just over a year at Carrow Road, even though he still had 18 months remaining on his current deal. He scored his first MLS goal when he netted Toronto’s third in a 4–0 win against FC Dallas on 17 June 2007. He was voted team MVP in his first year and repeated in his second year at the club. He completed his UEFA licenses in preparation for the opportunity to become a coach/manager.
Although much sought-after in the English Championship, Robinson has announced that he plans to spend the remainder of his club career in MLS: “Being brought up in English football, this is all I know, but I’m at the next stage of my life now.” Although he took a substantial pay cut after moving across the Atlantic, the considerably lower property prices in Canada compared to the United Kingdom allowed him to purchase a country estate near Toronto. In March 2010 he was traded from Toronto FC to the New York Red Bulls for a fourth-round pick in the 2011 MLS Super Draft. On 20 March 2010, Robinson started for New York in a 3–1 victory against Santos FC, which was the first match played at the new Red Bull Arena. On 21 August 2010, he scored his first goal for New York Red Bulls in a 4–1 road victory against his old club Toronto FC before his celebration showed the admiration that he held for them. He then continued to play in the 2011 season as a player/coach and speaks highly of the respect he has for Hans Backe.
A Wales international player, Robinson made his debut against Belarus in 1999, winning the man of the match award. His 50th cap came in the 2–0 World Cup Qualifier victory over Liechtenstein. On 1 April 2009, Robinson announced his retirement from international football at the age of 32 with 52 caps after Wales suffered two consecutive defeats, making it virtually impossible for them to qualify for the 2010 FIFA World Cup.
In January 2012, Robinson retired as a player and joined the Vancouver Whitecaps as an assistant coach. He took over as the head coach of the club in December 2013.
