Teddy Groves was another 1920’s star, he was signed from Talbot Stead Works team in March 1922, he made his debut for Walsall in April 1922 against Crewe as a right back.
He began the next season in the reserves but played one game as a right half. They converted him to a Centre forward and during that season scored 13 goals in just 22 games, as they finished third in the Third division North.
Teddy stood 5ft 10ins tall and weighed about 11stone, and during the next season (23-24) he again finished top scorer. In 1924-25 season he was changed into the defense. When Wally Webster left the club for Scunthorpe in 1925 Teddy then became a right back where he did an outstanding job until they reverted him back to central defender. Then after he had been at the Saddlers for 9 years he moved to Shrewsbury Town until he retired in 1933 due to injury problems, He had a few games for Wellington Town, but had to give up altogether due to his injury!
