Bill was spotted playing for Cannock Chase Colliery, as centre forward in 1934, he was obviously an amateur. Walsall offered him a trial which he came through and signed a professional contract.
Bill was 5ft 11 ins and he was strong and forceful on the football field. His progress was fast and he was to be with the club for 5 years. He was another player who was a big favourite of the fans scoring an average of slightly less than a goal every two games.
He left Walsall for Tranmere Rovers in 1939 but the second world war interrupted his career, and after the war, he never played top class football again.
