Walsall player 250. Michele Joseph “Mike” Cecere


I am hoping that someone out there can assist me with the records of Mike Cecere, I have not been able to find much on his career. I read some where that he played arouynd 140 games for Walsall and scored around 30 times, However I have not been able to connect withany sites which have information. I have no pictures amongst collection. So would appreciate it if you can supply, as usual I will mention that the picture is yours!

Michele Joseph “Mike” Cecere (born 4 January 1968 in Chester) is an English former professional footballer who played in the Football League as a striker for Oldham Athletic, Huddersfield Town,Stockport County, Walsall, Exeter City and Rochdale.

Mike in his FL career…Oldham 35 (17) Goals 8.

Huddersfield 50 (4) Goals  8.

Stockport 0 (1) Goals 0.

Walsall 92 (20) Goals 32.

Chester 34 (9) Goals 12

Rochdale 2 (2) Goals 1….

TOTAL 213 (53) Goals 61

  2. Signed him on loan right at the start of the time at Bescot. Seemingly because Martin Goldsmith was deemed to junior to command a first team place.

    Eventually signed for 25K. Which considering our financial status was a massive amount.

    Best season was that when we reached the play offs and he got nearly 20 goals in a side that was full of them. Was seen as a better bet at times than Wayne Clarke because of his work rate.

    In terms of trivia he was the first Walsall player who wore cycling shorts under his main shorts when protecting a hamstring injury. He also was dating Sally Ann AMtthews from Corrie who did come to games at times.
